PRICES are DROPPING
#1
I was on ebay this morning and was more than surprised to see the cost of reborns has dropped and I do mean dropped, I was a little stunned to see so many for sale and how cheap many of them were.

I don't sell on ebay but I know the fees are very high so I have difficulty working out how one would make any money on their baby after the cost and fees came out.
I know there is a big slump on ebay at the moment and etsy as money is tight but even I was taken back at some of the cheap prices.

The industry is doomed as far as I am concerned. Some people are now selling dolls for a fraction of the material costs even !!!
So sad to see, as this cheapens the Art form.
I have decided to go down a different path to attract a different buyers market, one not sullied and jaded by the current trends.
The result is a new generation of buyers who do not respect the Art form ( asking for free dolls was unheard of when I started) I have had several people message me, begging for free dolls I tell them they can go to Ebay and get one for less than cost but to expect to get what they pay for.
Cheers

wow Sue I didn't know you were getting so many people wanting free dolls and I agree that the cheaper the dolls on ebay the worse it seems to get. So what are your plans or are you keeping them close to your chest for a while

I still make the reborns and I wont drop my prices as I am happy to have them in my nursery for as long as it takes

Such a shame people want something for nothing! Ebay is awful at the moment, I listed my baby last week and only had two watchers and no bids, and she's currently on again from a 99p start but isn't even halfway to her reserve of £125 with just a day left. Considering the kit was £65, body and filling £15 and layette £15, plus she has rooted hair, by the time Ebay have taken their 10% I'll pretty much be selling her at cost even if she makes her reserve. Am not going to bother relisting her again until things improve.

I too have stopped selling on trademe in NZ, as there are artists selling for $200 they are not real quality babies but they are selling. I will be making them for my Nursery and Im getting orders through my website, and we have a craft market close to my home once a month, which I am busy getting a few finished for that. Too much time and effort go into my babies to just sell them for nothing!!!

I saw a girl on facebook that had made a doll in 4 days, including the most
awful rooting you have ever seen, and she was saying how easy it was to
reborn, and she was going to start to sell on Ebay. I asked her is she used
air dry or genesis, and the reply was a bit of each !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I said it
takes me the best part of a month to completely do a doll including rooted
hair one and a time, she came back and said not necessary to do one hair
at a time hers often has 2 or 3 or more. I replied Plugged hair, oh well
you get what you pay for. Such a shame that lovely reborns are lumped
in with the rubbish, unless you have a name and you get a lot more.

i agree, the market is awful at the moment,& you can pick-up "reborn's" for around £50.00 on ebay, but they look like they have one skin layer & a bit of blush?????
this makes the would-be buyers think we're hiking our prices up & they dont seem to realise the true cost of reborning & the dedication to the art we have,it's really sad,
i too have been sent emails asking for free reborn babies, often with a very sad story attached,& i feel awful when i have to refuse them,i'm not made of money???

I agree it is so sad to see some of these badly reborn babies and even more heartbreaking to see people actually buying them.I haden't sold a baby on Ebay since mid/late last year and when I listed my Ivy I was happy starting her cheaply at 199 starting bid...she sold for 246,I was hit with the usual Paypal fee for buyer paying paypal and 24 dollars Ebay seller fee! I'm still happy she got a new mum but I won't be listing like that again...
