Figuring Shipping Cost
#1
Hey girls,

How do you gals figure shipping cost? I've noticed some seller's on ebay give a cost figure for shipping charges. Are they (and you) able to put that cost due to knowing the shipping cost from prior sales? What advice can you give for finding how much would that be? Should I consult the postal service? Should I invest in a machine that can weigh baby? The only scale I have is for humans and one for food and neither one can give me an accurate reading.

Any advice is much appreciated Smile

P.S. Also ~ is it better to have clients pay with paypal?

I estimate my postage at $30.00 (for newborn size baby) and do not charge extra for box, tissue paper, ribbons, thank you cards etc I really do prefer Paypal and any excess postage charged is simply refunded back through paypal, any extra I cover it. I would check approx costs with postal service and maybe get some baby scales if you want to weigh etc.I only post within Australia currently.

Thank you for advice, Katrina!

I just might go to postal service tomorrow and see if they have some information on how I'd ship a baby...maybe even take her with me? *raising one brow*

Again - thank you! Wink

Ooooh take her with you! It's a good excuse to show her off LOL. Are you going to ship only in the states or internationally? Don't forget to get some shipping quotes to UK, Australia, Germany (wink wink nudge nudge) etc if so.

Hee-hee, if she warms the heart of someone, it doesn't matter where they live - I'll ship her there so she has a new mummy! Big Grin

In Uk we can get a one page brochure ( folded in 3 parts showing cost of posting letters, and parcels, etc, for Uk and the world,
BUT
I know the ladies who sell their dolls do not use this as it way more
expensive. If the parcel is heavy I weight naked on the bathroom
scales ( not a pretty sight ) then pick up the parcel and the difference
is what the parcel will weigh.

Last time I tried to get on my scale, it ran through the house whimpering. I'd have to find it again. LOL

Well, before I get on any scale, I'll need to eat some comfort food first to help with the shock! LOL! No wait, that wouldn't be a good idea, would it? ROFL! Big Grin

Although Australia Post has a postal charges brochure, I take my reborn and her box that I'm going to use, filled with the bits and pieces that are going with her plus bubble wrap etc. to my post office. They weigh baby for me on their scales, and then in her box as well.
Since I did it the first time, I was then able to set the postage rate for the next two babies I've sold. Now that the staff like to see the dolls, I get them weighed there anyway!
I include registration and insurance in my postage costs as well.
I also clearly state in my auction that customs duties and taxes are the responsibility of the buyer.
Hope this helps,
