What does "fake" mean?
Hi y'all,
I have a question. I notice that some of reborns say "Fake" or not "fake".
What does this mean? I haven't done anything yet with newborning but I am
headed in that direction. Can someone tell me about getting started with some tips and advise as well.
Thank you very much

RE: What does "fake" mean?
hey Issabelle
well to start with "fake" it came from a UK documentry titled "my fake baby" (you can find it on you tube if you want to watch it) after the documentry some artists started using fake baby or not fake baby in their title to catch more potential customers as after the doco alot of ppl thought they were called "fake babies" and not "reborn babies" and so when they did a search on ebay they typed in fake baby.
I hope that clears things up alittle for you
as for where to get started... i am not so good at giving general direction i'm sure someone else will be able to help get you started heheh I am better at answering specific question (always have been no clue why lol)
but i supose your very first port of call if you have no supplies or anything yet i would suggest choosing which type of paint you would like to work with, their is either the genisis heat set paints or air dry paints. heat set paint is good if you are worried about making mistakes as its easier to correct (i don't use heat set so someone else may be able to fill you in on the pros and cons of it)
i use air dry paints and the main pros and cons i can think of are it drys quickly, you don't have to heat set the paint , cons mistakes can be hard to correct if you don't notice it while the pain is still wet

Gayle, Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I know that there are a lot of questions from anyone who is a beginner. Everybody has to start somewhere. Someday I hope I can answer questions from someone as well. Thanks again, Issabelle

RE: What does "fake" mean?
Hi Issabelle,
I actually dont like the term Fake baby but as OM said it was used by the media and some atists picked it up.
In relation to the paints, I have never used the air dried paints however the results that I have seen look good.
I have always used genesis heat set and I love them and the result I get, I am also making that statement having never used any other paint lol. I think if you make a mistake and have to strip a doll it is going to be a pain no matter what paint you use and if you do a good job of drying the genesis then there is a lot of work involved in getting it off as well.
In relation to you asking questions you should just ask away as I have found that we get some really interesting replies and I actually pick up a lot of tips and I am sure others do as well.
You will be surprised how fast you learn things and you are right, it will be no time at all before you will be able to help people as well.
Its all rather exciting really once you get started with the reborning and for me it is fantastic hearing how new artists are going and knowing that I/we have been able to help them even if it is only on line, so you keep us up to date on how your going and as I said before you just ask away.
cheers
