Another funny
Getting into the lift in our tower block the care taker Peter saw me holding Hayley. She was wrapped up in a baby blanket as it's cold this time of the year. He ahhed and cooed at the sight. I then reacted by pulling her away from his gaze and I got frightened by what his reaction would be. I then quickly explained it was a doll and gave him a little sneaky view of her. He jumped back and grasped. I was a bit 'lost' by the whole scenareo but when I got back up stairs on the 11th floor I couldn't stop laughing at his reaction. She is so cute and of course a doll and wouldn't hurt a fly but show her to a middle aged man and he freaks.

Some of the reactions from people are very funny when it comes to reborns! Some people are facinated, some shocked, and I ahve had afew tell me its wrong or disgusting. I really think those people should keep a bit quieter about what they have to say as it can really hurt. We dont tell them something they adore is disgusting after all!

RE: Another funny
Kumikokids, I totally agree with you that people that have horrible things to say should keep it to themselves. Funny how attatched we can be to the dolls like they are part of us and anything bad said about them we get hurt.

Gayle, when I feel a bit more braver I won't jump in and wait till they ask. It will be interesting.

I took Hayley out last night to get some beer and a little curios black girl asked me after finding out Hayley if she was a doll if I was going to through her away. I said no too expensive but it got me thinking of the black kid's psychology and that she must value human life because if it is a doll then it has no value. Maybe not.

I take my reborns into work and one of the nurses in the home said that they encourage people to steal real babies, I was like OMG!!! I would never have thought that. Thing is she is a lovely person but she realy hates reborn babies, and has got into her head that they are a disgusting thingSmile

RE: Another funny
I worked out a long time ago that there are two reasons only why people love or hate reborns.
Because they look real
Making this a win win art form lol.

cheers

RE: Another funny
Before I found this forum I asked on a parenting site I belong to what people thought of reborns.
Alot of the answers were "ugly/creepy/disgusting/ what is their purpose".. Hardly anyone (if any) said anything nice... really made me sad .. and let me know that I cant go on and share my babies with them.

"I think they are amazingly artistic and clever."
"
I think they are creepy and disturbing. "
"I think that some of them are so cute. I've told DH that if for some reason we push back TTC again I will be getting one.

Some of them are downright creepy though, DH prefers the ones with the closed eyes, because some of them have a glazed stare if the eyes aren't lined up exactly right.

I was watching one on eBay which went for over $5,000. No way would I be paying that much for one. "

"I think they are cool but they creep me out too. "
"I admire them for their artistic quality, but also think they're creepy.

There's a lady who lives near my parents who walks her doll in the park every day - in her arms - propped over her shoulder (as though she's burping it) - she goes around for about an hour like this and to the shops too. I often wonder what her story is....whether there's a sad history of loss in her life. "

"Creepy. I think I saw them on Oprah.

Seems that people can become quite obsessed with them. On lady had a nursery set up for her babies and she treated them like they were her children.
Another had one made in the exact same image of her adult son when he was a baby- using his own hair! It was really creepy and it's eyes sort of followed you."

"I remember a link put up here a few years ago. I thought they looked amazing but after thinking about it I think they are rather creepy. It would be like having a baby in the home that has passed away "

RE: Another funny
I actually had some lady say to me on the weekend. What do you do with them? Use them for doorstops!!!!

I was quite amazed and would love to be a fly on the wall at her place when she gets visitors if she does get any and use them as door stops.
